Well, now there's MRT or Magnetic Resonance Tomography. Same thing, more powerful.

First a quick VERY SIMPLE history. MRI's have really only been around for 30 years -- compared to X-rays (some 100 years now). MRI's don't use radioactive waves, but use magnetic fields to produce image slices of the body.

This is where it goes over my head.. kinda.. bear with me.. lol

The "power" or "intensity" is measured through its magnetic flux in units of "telsa's". MRI's are usally 1.5 - 3 telsa's.

A new MRI has been developed with 7 telsa, to produce even clearer images of MRI's. This was produced for the Physikalisch-Technische Bundesanstalt (PTB) and the Experimental and Clinical Research Center (ECRC) of the Max Delbrück Center (MDC) for Molecular Medicine in Berlin-Buch. Say that 10 times... Its also been completed with a 9.4 telsa small animal MRT.. Why small animal and not human I have no idea. Its supposed to be "safe". Hmmm...

Either way, this is the newest and thought you would all like to know about it. Its going to replace the MRI's of today, with present applications being for cardiovascular research. I've tried looking up "sneak peek" images, but with no success. I guess people aren't that eager to see these new imaging splices.. YET. If I find any I will definetly post them up. DON'T YOU WORRY.

If you aren't quite familiar with what regular images look like, click here.

For the original article, click here.

This MRT is surrounded by a cage of steel weighing 250 tons which will, in future, be used to protect the surrounding area from the magnetic field. The hole in the center of the magnet will be the "pipe" in which the patient will be pushed in order to be examined..

Other LHC Uses...?!?!?!?!

I just read this article on "Large Hadron Collider to have 'Practical' Spin-Offs?"... EVER... this is the most original and unique invention/product/device that has probably ever existed. BUT WITH NO RESULTS OR DEFINITE USES YET! So how you gonna tell me that this thing can "solve big mysteries in science", but also "may help scientists treat diseases" and/or "improve the Internet" and/or "open the door to travel through extra dimensions"?!?!!?!?

If it does all of this, I will definitely post another blog praising this device, and being its b!tch, but for now, I want to see the LHC prove SOME theory.. and not something retarded like, "oh, the theory that 'x' particle possibly exists under 'y' applications and a 'z' type of environment"... The category 2 hurricane is thought to have a potential of a category 3 , with speeds of 111 (179km) miles an hour, right before hitting land. A "certain death" warning has been issued by the National Hurricane Center due to its 9-foot floods, which gives more to its severity and danger. Damage is thought to be due to these severe floods rather than 'just the strong winds'.

A similar warning was issued for Hurricane Katrina in 2005... Unbelievable... The above picture shows the path of Hurricane Ike that i got from the NHC -- you can keep going there and checking back at the stated times for more accurate updates for the path of this hurricane.

Our prayers go out to all of those affected, and for the prevention of others that are threatened by the effect of this hurricane.

Original source here...

Flame Retardant Grenades

37 fire departments along the east coast are using this invention called FIT (fire interruption technology) based out of Vancouver, Canada.

"The company says the device can fully extinguish a class B (fuel-based) fire in a room 2,100 cubic feet (60 cubic meters) or less and reduce fire temperatures from 1,000 to 300 degrees Fahrenheit (540 to 150 degrees Celsius) in less than 10 seconds. The FIT-5 is also designed to control class A (wood-based) fires enough so that firefighters can douse them with water. Firefighters in New York State and New Jersey have successfully contained three fires (in a room on the third floor of a house and two in basements) with the FIT-5 since it hit the market."

Kinda sounds like a fire extinguisher, that blows up... Yup, he was cremated -- or at least, someone was... This is up on yahoo.ca -- on their front page news headlines, and im sure its all over the place too. Crazy story.

10 days after he was missing, John Delaney was picked up and taken in with no way of knowing who he was because he was suffering from amnesia. He was then later placed in a nursing home of sorts -- and was on a program of people with missing relatives -- that his son John Renehan just 'happened' to watch, and recognize him! The odds! So they were basically reunited through all of this joy and happiness, with the bitter truth of not knowing who the actual cremated person is... was... hmm...

yahoo article here

Springwater Park

Just a couple snapshots I took in Springwater Park, Midhurst Ontario. When the researchers were able to examine the position of the head in the case of red and roe deer, they found the animals tended to point north."

So there you have it. Measles DOES NOT cause autism. Read the article at the link below -- its pretty self explanatory. The thing is, people's fear of vaccinations are almost entirely based on hearsay. The origin of this are the families whose children develop a disorder like autism, after getting vaccinated. The comparison is then made to children who do not develop autism and who at the same time, are not vaccinated.

Autism is a genetically inherited disorder. It can be related to birth defects -- but NOT the measles vaccine. Check out this link, and follow the footnote labelled "5".

For the article on this new study, click here...

LHC Data Transfer

The Large Hadron Collider (LHC) is creating A LOT of buzz. Im not gonna sit here and (try to) explain the whole process of how this LHC 'thingy' works, for numerous reasons. Its a lot to explain -- with too much background introductions in physics and quantum physics and also because I'm really not 100% sure myself!

Anyways, it's online on September 10th, and then we should either know the meaning of life, how to make black holes, or how molecules collide. Either way, there's a ton of information thats going to be attained from this -- specifically millions of gigabytes.

The LHC is predicted to generate 1 gigabyte per second of information -- or as the link below states -- "a dvd per 5 seconds" -- and an annual 15 million gigabytes (3 164 556 dvd's... I calculated that on my own...) -- all to be available to scientists all over the world by a single click on their computers.

This is going to be accomplished by 'set locations' of power house computer establishments, referred to as tiers. For example, tier 1 will be located at the CERN location will be powered by whats described as 100 000 of the worlds fasted CPU's and will communicate the information through fiber optic cables (10 gigabytes per second) to 11 other 'set locations' of tier 1, across the globe. Tier 2 will be at 147 different locations in universities and research laboratories to access this information.

Now of course this mammoth of a communication system is to shadow over the internet... But what I can think of is back in the day in elementary school -- when we would learn about computers, and how the computer would be the size of a warehouse. And then over the years that same computer is now a third of the strength of my laptop. So... give it a couple of years and these tiers will become the usb jump drives that I carry around? It's a little scary, but I'm still going to buy that usb drive...

Original Article Here...

Wolves Eat Salmon??

These, "coastal predators", as so described in the article linked at the bottom, eat FISH. I came across this site, and it's gonna keep me goin through these phases :) . Check it out.. Its hilarious! Found it on this site...

M&M Duels

Whenever I get a package of plain M&Ms, I make it my duty to continue the strength and robustness of the candy as a species. To this end, I hold M&M duels.

Taking two candies between my thumb and forefinger, I apply pressure, squeezing them together until one of them cracks and splinters. That is the "loser," and I eat the inferior one immediately. The winner gets to go another round.

I have found that, in general, the brown and red M&Ms are tougher, and the newer blue ones are genetically inferior. I have hypothesized that the blue M&Ms as a race cannot survive long in the intense theatre of competition that is the modern candy and snack-food world.

Occasionally I will get a mutation, a candy that is misshapen, or pointier, or flatter than the rest. Almost invariably this proves to be a weakness, but on very rare occasions it gives the candy extra strength. In this way, the species continues to adapt to its environment.

When I reach the end of the pack, I am left with one M&M, the strongest of the herd. Since it would make no sense to eat this one as well, I pack it neatly in an envelope and send it to M&M Mars, A Division of Mars, Inc., Hackettstown, NJ 17840-1503 U.S.A., along with a 3x5 card reading, "Please use this M&M for breeding purposes."

This week they wrote back to thank me, and sent me a coupon for a free 1/2 pound bag of plain M&Ms. I consider this "grant money." I have set aside the weekend for a grand tournament. From a field of hundreds, we will discover the True Champion.

There can be only one.

Intel's Wireless Electricity

It seem's like this is the new 'talk' of the... week.. month? Whatever, so yea, charge your laptops -- WIRELESS STYLE! Yea.. its weird... its different.. and its definitely going to be a while longer, but we're on our way. And Intel is paving this way for us.

Basically, 2 years ago, MIT researcher Marin Soljacic found out a way to transmit electricity through a magnetic field of an electrically charged loop of wire. He then reported that himself and his team could transfer power to a 60 watt light bulb from 3 feet away with an efficiency of 90%.

Intel has adapted this idea, by consulting with Marin and his group, and have achieved 75% efficiency from 2-3 feet away. The coils are -- no doubt -- extremely large for a laptop to use as wifi charging, but come on now, THIS IS INTEL WE'RE TALKIN BOUT...

Article here.

Measles Comeback!!

Measles is back and its cause of those parents who think that vaccinations are wrong!

Ok, so I'm 'kinda' against NOT vaccinating kids. A lot of people have this fear that kids will become autistic through vaccinations.

"Fifteen children under 20, including four babies, have been hospitalized and 131 sickened by the red splotches since the beginning of this year" according to the CDC.

This disease was eliminated in the year 2000. However, because of that previously mentioned fear of autism, ITS BACK. There are no conclusive studies on whether or not you get autism -- there are doctors who believe this to be untrue, and there are professionals who believe it to be true. But.. BUT... UN-VACCINATED KIDS GET SICK. This is fact...so... umm... vaccinate!

Original Article...

Portal to Mayan Underworld

Underground and underwater labyrinths have been found with connections to 14 caves -- in Yucatan Peninsula, Mexico.

"There are stones, huge columns, and sculptures of priests in the caves", said Anda -- one of the archeologists in this discovery.

A lot of thought is placed on whether or not the Mayan mythology of the deads travel to Xibalba (afterlife) was before or after the creation of the labyrinths. For me its just real cool that this is an actual creation/thought. I loved the movie The Fountain which had some aspects based on the idealogies of the Mayans, and Xibalba (the picture on the right). Simply going out to get supplies has turned out to be quite traumatic. Don't be naive enough to think it couldn't happen to you or your friends.

Here's how the scam works:

Two seriously good-looking 20-21 year-old girls come over to your car as you are packing your shopping into the trunk. They both start wiping your windshield with a rag and Windex, with their breasts almost falling out of their skimpy T-shirts. It is impossible not to look.

When you thank them and offer them a tip, they say "No" and instead ask you for a ride to another Home Depot. You agree and they get in the backseat. On the way, they start undressing. Then one of them climbs over into the front seat and starts crawling all over you, while the other one steals your wallet. I had my wallet stolen November 4th, 9th,10th, twice on the 15th, 17th, 20th, & 24th 29th. Also December 1st, 4th, twice on the 8th, 16th, 23rd, 26th, 30th, three times last Saturday and very likely again this upcoming weekend.

So tell your friends to be careful.

P.S. Walmart has wallets on sale 2.99 each

-----------------------------------------------
LOL, another oldie -- but i thought it was hilarious! But the assumption/theory has been proven. The protein CLOCK which regulates our biological clock, works in equilibrium with the protein SIRT1 -- which regulates energy consumption by our cells.

Our circadian clocks are estimated to regulate around 15% of our genes. So naturally if there is a disruption in the balance between the two proteins mentioned, then normal cellular function itself will also be disrupted. So basically changes in our sleep patterns and our diets can directly affect cellular action.

Now the importance in this discovery is that treatment can be directed towards the CLOCK-SIRT1 equilibrium and help manage or solve social problems like diabetes and obesity.

Original article here.

Norman Foster Made Me a Yacht

Ok, no, obviously he didn't. A 5-year-old boy in Denton, Texas managed to "escape" his day care center -- the 'Imagination Station', and ended up at the Hooters parking lot approx. half a mile away.

He stopped at a gas station to buy snacks and drinks. I don't get it. Snacks and drinks are better at hooters... so why bother? Was he on a tight budget? Either way, appparently he escaped through the fire exit that has no alarm at the day care center.

Pretty ridiculous.

Read the rest here...
